Water pressure, pumps and tanks in south Tenerife

Weak shower pressure, a pump that will not start or will not stop, a tank that empties by itself. In many homes in the south the water goes through a tank and a pump before it reaches the tap, and that is usually where the problem is.

What usually happens

  • Low pressure throughout the house: a pump or pressure set not performing, a dirty filter or a half-closed valve.
  • Low pressure at one tap only: an aerator or cartridge full of limescale; the pump does not need touching.
  • The pump starts and stops by itself: usually a small leak or an expansion vessel that has lost its air.
  • The tank empties or overflows: the float, the fill valve or a leak.
  • Banging in the pipes when a tap closes: what is known as water hammer.

The cause first, then the part

Before replacing a pump we check pressure, filters, valves and possible leaks: a pump that starts on its own is very often pointing to a leak you cannot see. If something needs replacing, you get a written price and you decide.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the pump start when nobody is using water?

There is almost always a loss somewhere: a cistern that does not seal, a leak in the pipework or a flat expansion vessel. We check that before touching the pump.

How often should the tank be cleaned?

It depends on use and condition. If you see sediment, notice a smell or the water comes out cloudy, it should be drained and cleaned. We check it on the visit.

What should I do if the house has no water?

First check whether there is a supply cut in the street or the community. If not and you have a tank, see whether it is empty or the pump has power. If you cannot find the cause, call us.
